Red soft winter ribbed beanie fisherman knit hat in solid color
While coats and jackets are important for staying warm during the colder months, beanie hats should be an essential part of your fall wardrobe.
Inspired by the headwear of early Antarctic explorers and Cornish fishermen, Misericordia recreates the traditional fisherman's beanie to it's south-american version: the Pescador Beanie is rustic, raw, stylish and functional. For an authentic look, our beanie is made from 100% Peruvian Alpaca wool by our skilled craftsmen using traditional methods.
The fisherman's beanie took their name from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland where, traditionally, they were knitted by the wives of fishermen. They have been largely phased out because they take a time to dry – a friend whose father still fishes off the south coast says her childhood was marred by the smell of mackerel in the house: “Those knits really hold the smell of fish.”
The merging of workwear with fashion is not new. Fishermen’s knits have become perennial items, and, like Breton stripes and Fair Isle patterns, they are pretty much always around in the autumn/winter season.
As well as being incredibly versatile, the fisherman's beanie can bring an instant dose of personality to your look and give it a more casual appearance. It's soft, stretchy and its fit is comfortable.
Because of it's timeless construction, basic pieces will complete your outfit with an effortless nonchalance. In cold weather, you will enjoy wearing one of our cosiest creations.
