Born July 28th 1965 in Châlons-en-Champagne (France), Matali Crasset trained as an industrial designer. In the spirit of one of her best-known objects, the roll-up guest bed Quand Jim monte à Paris (When Jim comes to Paris), she uses her own methodology, questioning the things we take for granted in our everyday life in order to break free and experiment.In this way she develops new typologies based on principles such as multiple modularity, suitability, flexibility and network. Her work, which began to be recognised in the 1990s as a rejection of pure form, is conceived as a quest in progress, built from hypotheses rather than from principles.She works in a variety of disciplines, from handicrafts to electronic music, from textile industry to fair trade. Her works have taken her into unexpected areas, from stage design to furniture trade, from graphic design to interior architecture.

GQ and Misericordia at the Cycle Show 2011

It will be the occasion to show you exclusively our collaboration with the prestigious italian constructor of bikes, Abici for a surprising, elegant and refined result.

This exposition will be situated on the stand of the magazine GQ which will present the most beautiful bikes created by designers with brand such as Lacoste, Diesel, Moncler or Strellson.

Photos of the most creative fix bikes will be exposed too, where you could admire the Granturismo Corsa, first model of our partnership with Abici.

It’s naturally that we associate ourselves with Abici, to developp and share a mutual idea of the luxury and the beautiful, that will be completely released in the next Spring.

Who's Next Blog

Aurelyen, can you briefly introduce yourself ?
I was born, in the suburb of Paris, and raise next to a cemetery. I studied Fine Arts. I draw since I discover that I have 2 hands. I love cinema and watch at least 4 movies per week. I started doing fashion by accident, and I never recover from the accident since then. I live between Peru (6 months per year) and the rest of the world. I’m a peruvian resident. I don’t eat cheese.

How did you start designing clothes? Is it something you’ve always wanted to do ?
I have never thought about designing clothes. I went to South America, and meet incredible people, and together we decided to create a fashion brand, with new and uncommon rules. We had nothing. So, nothing to lose, everything to do.
It’s a human project that is disguised with costumes. If you look at it closely, you are just going to find emotions.
Now, we are proud to be the first Peruvian fashion brand present on the international fashion scene. It is the best reward that could have been given to us and the best proof that everything is possible.

What are your sources or inspiration ?
My source of inspiration is South America, the city of Lima, Art and Music… And this damned world that makes me crazy. I try to absorb all the sensations that I got from my travels around the world and landscapes I saw, to maintain an idea of Beauty against the chaos. I mean chaos that I can feel in living in strong urban centres, where you can find all the stupid people who think they can rule the world. I’m also one of these stupid one, but I try to get in a cure.

Fashion, what for?
Fashion is a collective project, where you can develop a strong energy around a great team that needs to stick together to reach its dreams. I like Fashion, because I’m completely in love with the workshop atmosphere where sewers, cutters, patterns makers, print, embroidery and knitting artisans and myself are working hand in hand. This energy and this sharing that you find at the Shanty of Haute Couture Misericordia, our so-called workshop, is something unique that makes life turn to be sublime like a poetry. We wear this dream on our body everyday and share it with the rest of the world. What more could we expect?

Which artists would you like to make discover with the readers ?
The most beautiful movie that I saw last year: Alamar, directed by Pedro Gonzalez-Rubio.

Your news? Your projects ?
I’m making new videos for Misericordia that you can see on our website. I’m designing the new collection Misericordia with some great surprises and strong all over embroideries. At the same, I’m making the drawings for our fifth collaboration with Kris Van Assche.

Your favorite adresses in your city ?
In Lima : “La Herradura”, a beach on the side of the city, a fantastic treasure, where you can see dolphins and majestic birds.
In Paris : “Le musée de l’Orangerie”, the room for the ” Nympheas ” of Claude Monet. When light blows your eyes, Eden is in front of you.

The one question you’d like to be asked ?
Do you want to follow me to discover a secret? I will always respond YES.

Favorite drink?
A limonade, homemade without sugar in a cold glass on the beach, with my toes nestled inside the burning sand.

Describe a successful evening/night ?
A night on the drawing table, when inspiration strikes you deeply, and makes you feel crazy. Could be perfect if it ends with a woman and some music.

The thing more the nutcase whom you did see ?
Someone ready to make everything for Love.

Your last concert ?
Cypress Hill and Calle 13, at the Monumental Stadium in Lima. I trought myself in a giant pogo and broke my glasses.

Your last exhibition ?
“Tous cannibales ” at la Maison rouge in Paris. I went out from the exhibition with vibrations under my skin.

A motto ?
“No mas Utopia”, no more Utopia. That’s the motto of Misericordia.

One last word ?
Passion.

Shoes-Up + Little Shoes-Up = For the first time Shoes-Up #29 is out on the stands in a sealed version where you will find a 64 pages supplement dedicated to the small feet that wear the same shoes as we do. Today the brands have the “mini-us” in their sight. A change going along with the evolution of the place taken by children among us. The frontier between those two worlds has vanished for better or worse. Baby stars have always existed but for a few years the phenomenon has increased, we find budding artists in music, cinema, on the web… Adults keeping a foot (sometimes two) in childhood and children thrown in the adult world younger and younger. Today Brandarex has published an interview with Aurelyen, a founder, general manager and creative director of Misericordia.

How would you define the style Misericordia?

Misericordia is a collection of clothes for men and women living the adventure in our world of perpetual motion. All the collections are dedicated to action, love, dialogue, on the horizon … Our clothes accompany this process of change and the essential search for meaning, imposed by our presence.

Who are the consumers of the brand?
Customers of Misericordia are people between 18 and 40 years old. Today, the collections for women and men share the same success. At the beginning, menswear line was predominant due to our strengths in graphic prints. Currently, Misericordia is present in 17 countries worldwide in the most prestigious shops. Our customers are people who share the same vision and want to make the world a better place.

How do you see Misericordia in 5 years?
In 5 years, I hope Misericordia will still be the finest clothing brand with a big workshop in Peru, located in downtown of Lima. A team with shared values and skilled expertise. A brand that is known for its social commitment and authenticity. A network of shops, that transmit our unique concept. And I also hope that our online store will expand and develop to accommodate an ever more complete range.

Where are the fabrics used for making clothes?
All fabrics used by Misericordia are purchased in Lima, Peru. Misericordia attempts to defend the nobility of raw materials and quality of Peruvian cotton locally, including organic cotton we use for our t-shirts. All tissues are directly delivered to the workshop of Misericordia in Lima and are cut, embroidered, screen printed, sewn and packaged in our creative laboratory. There are no unnecessary transport or dispersion in the production process. All these operations are performed by the team of craftsmen of Misericordia, without any outsourced help.

Do you plan to use futures to raise funds for Misericordia development or independence is an essential part of the DNA of your brand?

Independence is paramount at Misericordia. This is a course of action necessary to safeguard a family project that is developing around respect and trust. Our intention is also to demonstrate the possibility of growing “healthy” immune to the temptations of speculative “money king”. We are guided by our passion, not our cash. It is a marginal position and authentic in today’s economy but our experience has shown that the sudden injection of money does not solve the problems of education, training and social agreement … in Peru or elsewhere. So we are going to continue our ambitious growth having in mind the collective interest in Misericordia.

How do you explain the success of your brand?
A mix between hard work and passion, luck, stubbornness and dream. The strength of Misericordia lies in the ability to create a relationship between fashion and social community. Our goal is to bring people together with the same vision of creating. This is reflected in our clothing and the history we carry. This idea affects people who feel our call for dialogue and this exchange and shared passion is our pride.

The first meeting: The Peru. Aurelyen, Parisian student, goes to South America. His lastname? A secret … Aurelyen therefore, is found in Lima, the hopeless capital . And quickly snapped up by loving a city that he describes as yet smothered under a cloudless sky gray, a meeting point currents of hot and cold air, a dirty city, sad, chaotic, with sudden and extreme social contrasts , Aurelyen decided to sew a different world and creates Misericordia, an independent Peruvian whose workers are all from the Cono Norte and mainly Zapallal. “In my small place of haute couture, we learn to sew. “Aurelyen him, is the designer, photographer, video artist, webmaster, art director, commercial director and that of communication – and his world charm without a misfire.

The second meeting: people’s lives – because “life is other people” … The other? Alessandra, who he had come to proudly present its organic cotton. She said today that it has not been listening to what his future client – husband – told her, she just looked at his eyes … The other? href=”http://www.krisvanassche.com/” target=”_blank”>Kris Van Assche, too: it was sweat, there is one and a half year. All thanks to Julien, collaborator Kris Van Assche who dresses Misericordia passionately. And since Aurelyen made T-shirts for Kris.

And the third meeting: That of romanticism. Neither New nor post, or rose water. True, chivalrous, sensitive, romantic fundamental as we need and we are wary wrongly. Whoever told to Aurelyen: “The desire is still the priority. “The greatest motivation to perform the miracles. Freedom to choose in preference to slavery and the challenge of adventure. To do something magical. As a T-shirt crying. ”
