Global Warming in Peru
Global warming does not help Peru to fight against poverty! Indeed the instability of the climate firstly affects the poorest of the country. Nowadays, Peru’s economy depends a lot on water which is provided by Andean glaciers. These glaciers reduced a lot these last few years (-25% in 10 years). For example plants growing in the water of the Lake Tititaca are the basic food for the cattle and are more and more dry thus they lose a part of the nutritive quality. So on, cows don’t produce milk as much as before and earning of producers decrease.
Tackle against climate change is thus fight against poverty. Unfortunately the high level of pollution of the country, especially in Lima doesn’t help for anything. How could they program as a priority the decrease of gas’s discharge when there is many people who don’t know how feed their family?
The summit meeting South America – Europe of May 2008 and the summit meeting of the APEC during 2008 are good periods to talk about these problems which concern us all and try to find solutions.
