The Gamarra – Lince Move

In November 2006, Misericordia moved from both its workshops in Gamarra and Zapallal, into one single workshop in Lince, a spacious and well lit place. To sum up, a place which suits our operations much better. The Gamarra workshop was just a moment, a phase, a small workshop, but one which allowed us to significantly develop ourselves, and to better our organization, thanks to our proximity to the other agents of the textile industry. We were situated in the centre of Lima in the historical district called La Victoria, but more importantly in the centre of Gamarra market. Gamarra is a place which can feel like both heaven and hell at the same time. It is a place where all the tools necessary for a textile production, or at least for the proper functioning of a confection workshop can be found. It is also a terrible place where restless merchants are found, as well as small restaurants which serve cheap food, although not always recommendable or fresh. You can also find illegal sweatshops containing appalling working conditions.
In this cruel environment, over a year we developed a quiet workshop, embodying a sense of both peace and creation. We gave the very best of ourselves for the completion and realisation of our collection. A collection containing beautiful clothes, filled with values, soul, emotion and pleasure. But when we were honest with ourselves, we could only realise one thing: the workshop had become too small and insufficient for our needs. In order to support the rapid rise of Misericordia, we needed to work in a more peaceful environment with an organisation which would suit us better.
And so, on the pictures below, you can see the move from Gamarra to Lince. The move was a joyful and pleasurable event for everyone involved; one of those rare moments where we feel we are changing, evolving and progressing the most. The adventure goes on, and becomes so many things we are yet to fully experience. We sense that we are about to heighten our benchmarks, and enter a new era. Leaving the workshop in Gamarra also meant leaving many memories behind. We celebrated Christmas together in the workshop, and together, we experienced many happy moments while producing and trying to better the workshop. When we first arrived in Gamarra, the workshop only contained four sewing machines. On the point of leaving the workshop, we had a dozen machines at our disposal. The workshop was therefore completed little by little, and is still being completed today in Lince.
And so, to cut a long story short, Gamarra while always signify the attainment of a whole different level, on both an artistic and creative level, since considering the quantity and quality of primary materials available around us, we were able to develop pieces which were constantly more creative, more complex and more beautiful.
